My Budget Friendly NYC Adventure To See The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular 2017!

The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular 2017

The Rockettes Christmas spectacular 2017

I’ve always wanted to go to New York City and see The Rockettes perform. It’s been a dream of mine since I can remember watching them on the Macy’s Day Parade. Every year I’ve contemplated taking my daughter Destiny. She is 13 and I felt like this year was the perfect year to do it! And it was! NYC is no joke when it comes to the hustle and bustle. The crowds, the hectic drivers and all the sounds and whistles from the city. But this was all part of the experience I wanted have with her. It was so worth it. We walked and walked and walked. And if you know me well, you know I am not the best at navigating. I am not the person you want to ask for directions.

If you’ve ever wanted to take a day trip and keep it within a budget here’s what I did to keep it under $500.

Transportation: I did not want to drive. At all. At this time of year Amtrak tickets are more pricey than usual. I booked tickets through Megabus.com and paid  $180 for the both of us round trip. The duration of the bus was not much more than taking the Amtrak but the price was much less. Parking at the park ‘n’ ride was a breeze in the lot and safely lit up with plenty of street lights. I was able to reserve our seats on the way up to NYC so we had great seats in the front with a sweet view! The busses are clean and roomy which made the 3 1/2 hour trip comfortable. We watched a movie, read a book and took a nap to gear up for our busy day.

Tickets to The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular: I went through Ticketmaster. I didn’t want to take any chances of getting discounted tickets that might not be accepted at the entrance. Our seats were not the greatest but they weren’t the worst. We were on the Second Mezzanine level. For both tickets the total with service fees were $167

The Food: I reserved our table for 2 on OpenTable at the Rock Center Cafe which is a midtown restaurant & bar in Rockefeller Center and has the best view of the ice rink! *Note – if you book on OpenTable they ask for your credit card to reserve your table. This is in case you are a no show. So make sure you aren’t late! We were 20 minutes late due to me taking a longer route to get there + our bus being late. Remember, I’m directionally challenged.  But I called to let them know and it was no problem.

Our Menu Selection:

Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail | Spiced Pear Bellini | Chicken Capellini with Spaghetti Squash | New York Cheesecake w/Blueberry Sauce

The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular 2017 was incredible!! It is a must see once in your lifetime if you get the least bit excited about it. The dancers are on point of course and the storyline was true to the Christmas spirit. Seeing inside the Radio City Music Hall will take your breath away. The chandelier is the most gorgeous thing I’ve ever seen. It was captivating!

After the show we grabbed coffee at Starbucks  to warm us up and found where The Today Show is taped!

The Today Show

After walking around NYC we found the cutest Radio City ornament for the tree to commemorate our trip and first time experience together in New York.  By this time the crews were setting up for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and it was nearing the end of the day. It was time for us to head back to the MegaBus stop. We braved the cold and found where we would depart.

Life can get so busy that we don’t take the time to plan out how we are going to make our dreams happen. Big or small it takes planning and mapping out how to get there. Everyday we are working and following schedules that we need to stop and take time to ask ourselves why are we doing this? What for? It’s moments like this that make me so happy. To be able to share this with my daughter – something I was never able to do growing up – that make it all worth it!

Have you ever been to The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular Show? I’d love to hear the experience you had!

Cheers!
